A Fine Japanese Gold and Silver Lacquer Cosmetic Box (Tebako)
Edo period, 18th century
Shaped rectangular, lacquered in gold and silver takamaki-e and hiramaki-e with an animated procession of fans, lions, flowing streams, water birds and foliage, all set against a finely worked nashiji ground. The interior retains a fitted tray insert, decorated in matching maki-e with a temple set within a lush landscape. With a tomobako storage box.
