Of rectangular form, the exterior and interior of the lid decorated in rich gold maki-e with mountainous landscapes, featuring a cascading waterfall, winding stream, and thatched dwellings nestled among pine trees. The rims are fitted with silver mounts. The interior is further embellished with a mountain scene incorporating a shaped inkstone, a silver-gilt mizuire, and four lacquered writing implements.
