Private Collection USA

Exhibitions

Comparabable examples.

An identical pair of Champleve enamel quail sold at Christies London 23rd May 2024 for £113,400.

Literature

This rare pair of quail can be compared with the quails illustrated in Compendium of Collections in the Palace Museum- Enamel 4 Cloisonné in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)’, The Forbidden City Publishing House 2011, fig.67, p.115.

This charming pair of quail depicting one bird cast with head bowed towards its wing, the other looking straight ahead, each are finely decorated in white and black enamels, their gilt claws and head naturalistically textured.
